The amazing artworks from the second half of the 19th-century, as well as the thought-provoking pieces of the numerous 20th-century Avant-garde and Modernist movements, are the favorite ones for many art lovers, and these compelling periods provoke an intense thrill among the non-specialised public too. Record-breaking prices at auctions and endless queues for exhibitions dedicated to legendary artists characterize this epoch. The course provides an overview of the intricate pattern of styles, movements, artistic processes and ways of expressions, starting from the Impressionism and up to the practices of late Modernism. This detailed investigation of the history of the arts from the mid -19th century to the early Post-War years will help in understanding one of the most discussed turning points in the history of art, the period when even the concept of artwork, artist and art itself was often challenged.
