Course Description

This program offers students a unique opportunity to grasp the complexities of the international art world and provides an overview of the multifaceted experience of being an art dealer. The course explores the economic context of the art gallery business, the daily operations, discussing issues such as working with artists, setting prices, developing relationships with collectors, working with art fairs and biennials or defining exhibition budgets. Students will gain exposure to a variety of professionals in the commercial arena of the visual arts including dealers and consultants. The course will conclude with the formulation and presentation of a comprehensive business plan for a startup arts business.

The art market operations and context, regional markets, what is special about Middle East comparing to other markets
Registration in UAE, taxes, legal aspects, accounting
Operating online, offline or both
Organization of the gallery space, location, storage (visit)
Managing the daily operations, staff, security (visit)

Is the specialization required (visit)
Dealing with artists (visit)
Prices definition
Marketing and getting clients: fairs, promo, events, networking (visit)
Financial planning for the startup

Entry requirements

Advanced level of English language (no translation will be provided).
Previous art related experience or education is not required.
