Dr. Ulrike Al-Khamis

Dr Ulrike Al-Khamis has served as Senior Strategic Advisor for Sharjah Museums Department and Co-Director of the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization since 2007. From 1999-2007 she worked as Principal Curator for the Middle East and South Asia at the National Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh, UK. Between 1994 and 1999, Dr Al-Khamis held the post of Curator for Muslim Art and Culture at Glasgow Museums, Glasgow, UK. Dr Al-Khamis holds a PhD in Islamic Art from the University of Edinburgh and a BA (Hons) from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. In addition to her museum work, Dr Al-Khamis regularly contributes to academic teaching at the graduate, postgraduate and continuing education level, both in the UAE and abroad, with particularly close links to the American University of Sharjah, Zayed University, Sorbonne Abu Dhabi, the Institute for the Study of Islamic Civilizations (AKU) and Edinburgh University.
